Be your own Captain

With self drive holidays, you are the boss. Jump aboard and unwind as you pass through peaceful countryside spotting the local wildlife, or stopping off at points of interest and bustling market towns and lively pubs.

Self drive holidays are great fun whatever your boating experience; the boat hire company will brief you on everything you need to know when they hand over the boat to you - you will learn how to use locks; they’re easy to handle and great places to chat to other boaters.

Adventure ChallengeThere are a variety of self drive boats to choose from; from cosy, romantic two berths to small family cruisers to twelve berths for groups of friends or larger families. You need to decide how many people will be staying onn board as this will determine the size of your boat.

To help you choose a holiday company, the English Tourist Board have introduced the Boat Grading Scheme . Holiday companies that have joined the scheme have all of their boats inspected by the Tourist Board every year and given a grade on a scale of 1-5. When you choose a holiday operator, make sure that they are members of this scheme.
