New family sailing yacht
Example: Beneteau First
If you fancy being the very first owner of a yacht then there
are a small number of new sailing yachts in this range, suitable
for families or sailing with friends. Yachts will be typically be
between 24 and 30ft and suitable for sea cruising. In the cabin you

mooring or a berth in a marina.
Second hand family sailing yacht
Example: Dufour 30/Bavaria 30
There is plenty of choice in this price range for a second hand
family sailing yacht. The price is largely based on the age of the
yacht, its length and the standard of the accommodation below. You
can expect a yacht of around 30ft, with basic accommodation and
full cooking/wash facilities. The yacht will come with full sails,
an inboard engine and usually all the ropes and equipment you will
need to sail and moor her.
New rigid inflatable boat
Example: Revenger 29 Outboard/Avon JetRib
Rigid Inflatable Boats have become really popular for family
fun, for getting to and from our favourite destinations and for
just socialising on the water. These are day boats with a solid
hull and inflatable tubes around the hull. In this price range you
can buy a large RIB with a powerful outboard engine. A typical RIB
will have a sizeable steering console with full navigation lights
and equipment, seats for a family and friends and lots of storage
space. Engine size will depend on your budget and the length of the
boat. Consider twin engines if you want good manoeuvrability and
reliability. In this price range could also consider one of the new
generation on jet ribs.
Narrowboat
Example: 60ft Norton Canes Boatbuilders traditional
Narrow boats, Canal boats and Dutch barges offer wonderful
opportunities for long happy holidays on the canals, rivers and
broads or they can even offer a second home. In this price range
you will find boats of all sizes and condition. Some are great for
a couple planning long term cruising, some are older boats set up
perfectly for families. It really pays to trawl the magazines and
web sites and then visit some boats for sale to get a feel for
them. [links to member sites]
Second hand river cruiser
Example: Broom 30
If you fancy exploring the rivers, broads and lochs then this is
the sort of boat for you. In this price range you would buy an
older boat but with plenty of comfort and lots of room for the
family and friends. Expect several cabins with all facilities, a
galley (kitchen) and room on deck for all to enjoy the view. Most
boats are built in GRP, a hard wearing composite which needs much
less maintenance than traditional materials. Virtually all river
boats are too heavy to be trailable so you will need a berth or a
mooring.
