Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival
Details
The 2010 Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival takes place on
Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2010 on South Quay, when
traditional tall ships, expedition vessels, steam drifters and
lifeboats will be moored on South Quay for visitors to admire and
go aboard. The Festival is a riot of colour and maritime music,
with a large main stage featuring performances, shanty groups, folk
bands, choirs and brass bands and two other entertainment areas,
all with bars. Land-lubbers who prefer to keep their feet firmly on
terra-firma will have plenty to keep them entertained.
Shanty and maritime music will be performed throughout the festival
at three different venues up and down South Quay, the Main Stage,
The Fo'c'sle and in Horatio's Bar with a packed programme of
artistes, including the Newfoundland dogs and their amazing water
rescue displays. Painting, ceramics, knot tying, net mending, boat
building and lace making will all be on display in the popular
demonstrator's marquee. The Feast of Fish marquee will whip up some
delicious fish dishes. Walk about entertainment includes Horatio
Herring and Mrs H too! Lord Admiral Nelson will be surveying the
scene, and this year accompanied by Lady Emma too. Festival-goers
should also watch out for loud bangs along the quayside as well as
the East Norfolk Militia go on parade.
