Wind Powered Craft
Dinghy
sailing, Windsurfing and Yachting are some of the most popular activities
in the UK; around 2.5 million people took part in sailing
activities last year - and they represent some of Team GBR’s best
medal hopes at the 2012 Olympic Games.
It is not all about racing though, Dinghy Sailing, Windsurfing and
Yachting are great
recreational activities and it is possible to start sailing with
very little experience. If you are a newcomer and unsure of where
to start, don’t worry these activities share some of the same
principles and there are lots of different ways for you to get on
the water.
This guide will help you understand how you
can get started in Dinghy Sailing, Windsurfing and Yachting, what equipment and training is
required and what the costs are; enabling you to make the most of
the UK’s inland waterways and coastal waters.
Dinghy Sailing is one of easiest and most
affordable ways of getting on the water. Across the UK, there
thousands of locations where you can try dinghy sailing from
reservoirs, lakes to rivers and the coast. Most people live less
than an hour away from a water opportunity. More dinghy sailing >
Yacht Sailing, or
simply Yachting, is often seen as a luxury
sport, but you don’t have to be wealthy to enjoy the thrills of
yacht sailing. There are several affordable options if you wish to
try yacht cruising or racing in the UK or overseas. More about yacht sailing >
Windsurfing is often seen as an extreme sport
with big wave riding and acrobatics, but it can also be learnt at a
more leisurely pace on lakes and reservoirs before venturing into
coastal waters. More about windsurfing
