Dinghy
Sailing
Getting into dinghy sailing is relatively
inexpensive and simple. Most sailing centres or clubs will be able
to hire or lend you the necessary equipment to get on the water.
Dinghies are usually small boats which you can
sail on your own ( single-handed ), in a pair ( double-handed
), or with a group of friends depending on whether you
enjoy the social aspect of sailing, or you prefer the
challenge of being in total control.
One of the most important things for you to
know is that dinghies are categorised into different ‘classes’
or types of boat depending on their size, design and the number of
crew they can hold. Choosing a type of sailing ‘class’ depends
partly on what type of sailing appeals to you and partly on what’s
available within an acceptable travelling distance of home. Don’t
worry though, you can always try out new areas of sailing at any
time — in fact this is often the best way to figure out what you
enjoy most, as well as helping to broaden your experience and
knowledge base.
Learn to Sail
Dinghy sailing is very popular because it is open to people
of all ages and abilities. Whether you want to enjoy a
relaxing day's sailing with the kids in a cruising dinghy,
or, if you are looking for speed and excitement
in a racing dinghy, there is something for everyone.
